Portchester Gala 2016 - 'Entertainment for all ages!'

Portchester Gala 2016 was again a roaring success, with the sun shining and thankfully no rain! The people of Portchester came out in huge numbers to enjoy this great community event.

The floats taking part in the parade this year were extraordinary, the Pirate Trikers were there jazzing up the place and TS tenacity were ever so lively! We also had Juggler John performing all sorts of tricks on the way. Our kind Judge, Alan Knight MBE and Portsmouth FC Ambassador had a truly difficult time judging everyone’s amazing floats but did come to a decision, and even spent time taking photos with the public. Thank you to Image Chameleon and the Fareham and District Camera Club for taking the photos below.

The 'Paradise in Portchester' float came in 3rd in the community category, Aziza Egyptian Belly Dancers came in 2nd and Portchester Community School PTA came in 1st with their extremely bright and colourful Rio Olypmics float; there was definitely an exotic feel to the air.

There was fierce competition in the childrens and young people category with 3rd Portchester Scout group standing proud, Everyone Active achieved 3rd place with their vast numbers of talented dancers and Portchester Youth Theatre came in 2nd place. Wicor Primary School took 1st and blew
everyone away with their Harry Potter themed float, with hand made house emblems, the sorting hat and all of the Hogwarts favourites present; it was really a treat to see.

Others involved in the parade were our kind sponsors LV NOON, in tow with the NOON banner and children dancing all the way to the castle! We also had Charmaine of Portchester taking part in the parade this year, who in under 24 hours managed to get together an amazing display of flowers and flower pots, a wonderful sight. Also, not forgetting Coffee Cup with their mascot and more people dancing down the street.
And finally our local Fire and Police Services who are so dear to us all were represented with the huge fire engine and police car!

The excitement of the raffle came next with the amazing prizes kindly donated by local traders for the 10 lucky winners. All proceeds from the raffle go towards paying for the Christmas tree in Portchester precinct, so all money raised goes towards a very worthy cause, Thank you to everyone who bought tickets and to the traders for being so generous.

The day ended with some fierce competition in the Tug-of-War and all the teams really but their backs into it, but the ‘Wicor Dads’ were victorious (much to the delight of their children).
